Across Cornwall you'll find stories of cunning folk, wise women and charmers whose knowledge was sought for protection, healing and guidance. At the same time, fears of witchcraft and supernatural harm were woven into everyday life, shaping beliefs and behaviours for centuries.

In this talk, we'll delve into the folklore, history and cultural traditions surrounding Cornish witchcraft, exploring the people at the heart of these stories, the remedies and charms they used, and the darker fears of curses and malice that lingered in the shadows of rural communities.

Blending historical research with folklore and local legend, Keith will examine how these beliefs developed, why they endured, and what they reveal about Cornwall's rich and mysterious past.

Keith Wallis

Keith Wallis is host of The Piskie Trap - a podcast series exploring the folklore, history and legends from across Cornwall. His recent work has involved a number of collaborations with leading historians, writers, folklorists and storytellers, as part of a movement to preserve local folklore traditions, and to promote Cornish history and heritage.
